Submission Process and Deadlines

Admission into many Creative Writing courses requires instructor consent. For workshop courses, instructors select students by reviewing samples of student writing. For Technical Seminars and Fundamentals in Creative Writing, students do not need to submit a writing sample but do need to complete the rest of the submission form.

Students who are majoring in Creative Writing, completing a minor in Creative Writing, or completing the Creative Writing Option for MAPH receive priority in consent-based CRWR courses. In 2017-2018, fourth-year students completing a creative BA through the English major should note this in applications as well.

Course descriptions indicate required submission material. To apply to a Creative Writing course, samples should be submitted online by the submission deadline (see below). The sample should reflect the genre of the course (e.g. a fiction sample for a fiction workshop, a poetry sample for a poetry workshop).

NOTE: Students may apply for no more than 2 courses in each genre. Students are encouraged to indicate their first choice course clearly.

YOU MUST SUBMIT A SEPARATE APPLICATION FOR EACH COURSE YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR.

Please check your application to ensure the AutoFill or other setitngs have not populated fields with errors.

Do not try to pre-register for an application-based course; this will not affect your application status.

Students will be informed whether they have been admitted in advance of the first day of classes.
