2009 COLLEGE HONORS AWARDS in CREATIVE WRITING

DEADLINE for all entries is MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2009, 5:00 PM.

Submission Instructions.
Two hard copies of each submission must be delivered to Walker 411 by April 13, 5 PM.

Please fill out and include the cover sheet (available by emailing katesoto@uchicago.edu or in Walker 411) and staple one to each copy of your submission. Your name should only appear on the cover sheet.

Restrictions: Each competition is open to University of Chicago College students who will be members of the graduating class for the bachelor's degree prior to June 30, 2009.

Prizes:

THE DAVID BLAIR MCLAUGHLIN PRIZES

For essays demonstrating special skill and sense of form in the writing of English prose.

Entry limited to one essay per student.

FIRST PRIZE: $300, SECOND PRIZE: $150

THE OLGA AND PAUL MENN FOUNDATION PRIZES

For an original short story or novel

Entry of one short story or novel allowed per student allowed. Novel submissions should be composed of a 25-page excerpt from the novel and an explanatory preface.

FIRST PRIZE: $1000, SECOND PRIZE: $500

THE JOHN BILLINGS FISKE POETRY PRIZE

For the best original poem or cycle of poems by a University of Chicago Undergraduate.

Entry limited to group of 6 poems, or one poem cycle, per student.

ONE PRIZE: $500
